2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road: First Look Auto News

• Here are the first photos of the TRD off-road version of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma.

Usually, when we tell you about the first glimpse we have of a car, it’s because the manufacturer has shared photos of it. Here, this is not the case while the model shown was seen by an amateur and shared on the Tacoma4G.com forum.

We had a chance to see the Tacoma up close at an event in Hawaii in May, but one of the versions that would be in the catalog was absent, the TRD Off-Road. It’s the more affordable version of the model designed for driving off the beaten path. Therefore, it is popular with hobbyists.

The TRD Off-Road version is positioned similarly to the TRD Sport variant, but it emphasizes off-road capability rather than sporty on-road driving. So it shares a few features, including similarly sized fender flares, grille, fog lights, smoked surface LED headlights, plus blacked-out emblems.

It offers unique stylistic features.

This version is also equipped with a series of other features that are not shown in the pictures, but Toyota revealed them. For example, there are Bilstein shock absorbers with a separate reservoir designed for off-road driving. It also offers terrain selectable driving modes. An electronically locking rear differential is standard, as are skid plates.

17- or 18-inch rims are available, and they can be bolted to 33-inch tires. As an option, the off-road version can be equipped with an electronic front stabilizer bar disconnect system, which provides even more possibilities when driving off-road.

As with the Sport model, the TRD Off-Road Hood is only available in a four-door cab configuration. It comes standard with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a block that makes 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque with the eight-speed automatic transmission, or 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft with the gearbox. A six-speed manual is offered as an option. The Tacoma can be equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbo-hybrid engine that makes 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The model also benefits from a rear suspension with coil springs.

Like other 2024 Tacomas, non-hybrid models will be available by the end of the year while hybrid variants will arrive in early 2024. Pricing for the 2024 Tacoma versions has yet to be announced.
