SARU . flag Deku Yuri It was created recently and as is often the case with studio work, it stands out from the rest of the titles released this season in terms of animation style and storyline. The series, loosely based on Mark Twain’s characters The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, follows a girl named Berry and it’s not just a typical sci-fi title. Instead, it’s a great experience of the wonders of the Metaverse and the dangers associated with it.
Wait, metaverse?
yes. In fact, a few days before the anime premiere, the chain released a video explaining the premise of setting up the show. The place, called Tom Sawyer Island, is described as a “data metropolis” where real and virtual spaces merge. All citizens of said island are equipped with a “super breeding space” to allow them to see both the real environment and the virtual spaces.
The premise alone reflects the latest strides we have made in bridging the gap between the physical world and the digital world, specifically under the theme of the metaverse. Technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), among others, are some of the ways that have allowed us to do more things by integrating digital assets into the physical world. Recently, Metaverse has caught the attention of major companies to make it a reality, including Meta and Microsoft.

As we learn more about anime, we find that all citizens earn ‘Love’ points, which are loosely based on the social media engagement we receive on social media platforms. They are only valuable in the digital realm. Balancing these love points through the “decoration personalization” system, or the “decoration” system for short, will allow the community to live in harmony.
A realistic but painful representation of the digital universe
Deku Yuri It depicts the Metaverse realistically, cleverly creating story points and connecting them with the surrounding world. Reflection is a reflection of the risks associated with our connection to the virtual world. The series follows our main character named Perry on his way to fixing his faulty decor. On the way to the doctor, she discovers a person through her faulty decor and realizes that it could be Zero, a criminal who steals love points. She decides to hunt down the mysterious person, as a nearby man has been robbed, and soon comes face-to-face with an entity described as True Zero.
Stealing in the digital world is nothing new, but stealing from something that exists digitally is probably a new concept, especially as more and more people are accessing digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens. The anomaly that causes imbalance within Tom Sawyer Island also makes a fine commentary on our attraction to modern trends whose perils we often do not notice. In addition to the theft and hacking occurring in this digital space, metaviruses continue to be plagued by growing issues, including concerns about harassment and exploitation in less economically developed countries.
Deku Yuri It offers viewers an almost ironic look at the digital space, and I honestly totally agree. It will be interesting to see if Perry and the thief end up embarking on a mission to solve the class imbalance within Tom Sawyer Island. How will other citizens react? Will it be freedom or despair if they lose all their accumulated points? In a way, you can say that this is not only a critique of metaverse but also of all our societies in general.
In short, the premiere of the series was absolutely amazing, and the animation was a feast for the eyes in SARU’s unique style that never disappoints. In addition to theme songs1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 love«by Clammbon»emoine loveBy Hack’nBerry (voice actresses Mira Kawakatsu and Anna Nagase) It goes well with the colorful style and story of this anime.
