You know, the next day Slices From AMD you will welcome a new socket: AM5. This is completely different from Plug AM4. Goodbye with the PGA socket (matrix pin) with which you came to extend your processor to accommodate the LGA socket (Ground Grid Matrix). This socket will look like it’s already been there for years on Intel motherboards. Why this change? Quite simply because of the higher number of pins in the next Ryzen 7000 processor (1718). No more processors sticking to the base of your cooling system during disassembly.
Even if the socket was different, AMD decided to keep the distance between the mounting holes. So the idea is to allow future buyers to maintain their own cooling system. Many brands have already announced the compatibility of their cooling system such as Alfkoll. Some manufacturers now confirm compatibility but it is more accurate such as the American manufacturer Optimus.
We had many questions: Yes, our AMD blocks work with AM5 (rack identical). IHS differs in CPU, die areas are smaller than previous clans. We won’t know the performance until we get samples, but the smaller regions of high heat are where our masses shine. pic.twitter.com/prBzyVFlXN

In fact, if on the Intel side DIE is focused on the PCB, this is not the case at all with AMD. So it will be interesting to see how cooling systems will behave with this new generation of processors on socket AM5.
