Real Madrid legend Gareth Bale claimed in 2013 that Cristiano Ronaldo was a more complete player than Lionel Messi. The Welshman announced his retirement from club and international football today (9 January).
Bale, 33, played alongside Ronaldo in Madrid for four seasons. He fell in love with the Portuguese icon when he compared her to Messi. In an interview with Life’s a Pitch, he said:
“For me personally, I would say Ronaldo (a more complete player). She has everything you need. He’s strong, powerful, fast, he can head the ball, he can hit the ball. Obviously you can’t say anything bad about Messi, but for For the most complete football player, I would say Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo is one of the greatest players in Madrid’s history, the club’s all-time top scorer in La Liga with 450 goals in 438 matches. He won the Champions League five times, including three in a row alongside Bale.
He is known for his speed, physique, and heading abilities. This last aspect is used by many when it comes to fully identifying Messi or Messi. However, the Argentine has wowed fans since his debut for FC Barcelona in 2004.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker started his speech by winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina, finishing with the Golden Ball after scoring seven goals and providing three assists in seven matches. Meanwhile, their Portuguese rivals scored just one goal in five matches.
