Over the past decade, the BBC’s Real Madrid (Bel Benzema-Cristiano) and Barcelona’s MSN (Messi-Suarez-Neymar) have emerged as the most offensive attacking trio in the world.
The players understood each other perfectly and tormented their opponents with their deadly finishes and sharp moves. Sadly, all three have since disbanded, making way for others to take center stage.
Today we’ll take a look at the five attacking trios that have rocked Football City this season. The players listed below do not necessarily play together all the time but are the top three players to score for their teams. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the most successful attacking trios in Europe in the 2022-23 season.

#5 Nkunku Werner Silva (RB Leipzig) 33 goals
RB Leipzig’s attacking trio of Christopher Nkunku, Timo Werner and Andre Silva has been on fire this season, scoring 33 goals.
Frenchman Nkunku was the undisputed star of the trio. In 23 matches so far, Nkunku has scored 17 goals and four assists. 12 of the 17 goals he scored in 15 Bundesliga matches.
Former Chelsea player Werner has also been impressive at his former hunting ground. The German appeared in 16 matches, scoring nine goals and four assists.
Portuguese striker Silva is the third player in the trio. He has struck the perfect balance between scoring and assisting this season, scoring seven times and assisting seven goals in 23 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions.
#4 Musiala Mane Choupo-Moting (Bayern Munich) 34 goals
German giants Bayern Munich lost Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer. However, even without one of the most prolific goalscorers of all time, Bayern managed to keep scoring thanks to their attacking trio of Jamal Musiala, Sadio Mane and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
Jamal Musiala has been a blessing for the Bavarians this season, as the German scored and set up for fun. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has made 22 appearances for the Bavarians in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists.
Ex-Liverpool player Mane may not be able to match Lewandowski’s output, but he has shown up with his fair share of impressive goals. Since the start of the season, Mane has scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 23 appearances in all competitions.
As Thomas Müller struggles to live up to his billing this season, Choupo-Moting has emerged as Bayern’s third most effective striker. The former Paris Saint-Germain player has played 16 matches this season, scoring 11 goals and three assists.
#3 Salah Nunez Firmino (Liverpool) 36 goals
Liverpool trio Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino scored 36 goals in the 2022-23 season to become one of the best teams in Europe.
Salah has been the most prolific member of the massive trio, scoring 17 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions. The Egypt international, who won the Premier League Golden Boot as well as the playmaker award last season, has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 17 league matches so far.
Salah also showed his superiority in the Champions League, scoring seven times and providing one assist in six matches to become the tournament’s top scorer (along with Mbappe).
Newcomer Núñez has come under fire for some of his failures, but his tally of 10 goals in 23 matches is undoubtedly respectable. Firmino is the third player in the trio, with the Brazilian scoring nine goals in 21 matches.
#2 Haaland Foden Alvarez (Manchester City) 44 goals
Manchester City currently has the largest attacking trio in the English Premier League. The dynamic trio of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez have scored for him this season, scoring an astonishing 44 goals in all competitions.
Arguably the signing of the season, Haaland was the leader of the pack, scoring 27 of his 44 goals. The Norwegian top scorer leads the Premier League Golden Boot race with 21 goals in 16 matches. He scored five more goals in the UEFA Champions League (four matches) and added another in two matches in the UEFA Cup.
Foden also scored goals and assists regularly in the 2022-23 campaign, with nine goals and four assists in 26 matches. Finally, there is the new world champion Alvarez, who played second fiddle to Halland. The 22-year-old has made 23 appearances for Citizens (10 appearances) so far, scoring eight times and providing two assists.
#1 Messi Mbappe Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain) 48 goals
With Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in their ranks, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have the most offensive trio in Europe. Trident has scored 48 goals this season, making PSG one of the strongest teams on the continent.
French star Mbappe became the top scorer for Paris Saint-Germain in the 2022-23 season. The former Monaco has scored 20 goals and provided 22 assists in 22 matches in all competitions. He is currently the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 13 goals in 16 matches, and is also the top scorer (along with Salah) in the UEFA Champions League, with seven goals in six matches.
Neymar comes second with 15 goals and 13 assists in 22 matches in all competitions. He has been particularly stunning in Ligue 1, scoring 11 times and assisting his teammates 10 times in 16 matches.
Finally, there’s seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, who has played like a man owned this season. After sending Argentina to the World Cup in December, Messi is trying to conquer everything with Paris Saint-Germain. He’s scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists in 20 matches across all competitions so far, and so far he’s showing no signs of stopping.
