The coach of the Nigerian national team, Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, defended Victor Osimhen, and criticized him after his lackluster performance in the double confrontation against Guinea-Bissau, in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Victor Osimhen was the author of a quadruple during a show of strength against Sao Tome and Principe (10-0) last June, and was just a shadow of himself during the recent international break, counting on the third and fourth days of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Against Guinea Bissau with a mixed record (0-1, 1-0), the Super Eagles forward was clearly incompetent with no goals scored.
He missed another meeting for the former Lille resident who already missed his performance against Ghana during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. This earned him heavy criticism in the country. Fortunately, the former Lille player can count on the support of his coach, Jose Peseiro.
In response to a question about Osimhen’s status in the national team, the Portuguese technician defended his player. “Victor is one of the best strikers in Europe. He feels more pressure with our national team than with Napoli. He’s not normal.”Peseiro said in remarks reported by All Nigeria Soccer. Under the colors of the Super Eagles, Victor Osimhen scored 15 goals in 23 matches.
