asterix & amp; Obelix: The Middle Kingdom It’s among the Netflix Originals due out in May 2023, following its theatrical release earlier this year.
Directed by Guillaume Canet, this action-packed family film tells the story of the daughter of a Chinese emperor who runs away and seeks help from Gaul and two brave warriors named Asterix and Obelix.
The characters are inspired by classic comics and books that have sold nearly 400 million copies and were first published in 1959.
Kanet alongside Gilles Lelouch, Vincent Cassel, Jonathan Cohen, and Marion Cotillard.
The film also includes a cameo by football legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who recently starred in the Netflix animated film, soccer movie.
When it was released in France in February 2023, the movie didn’t really catch fire as it currently has a score of 2.4 on Allocine from critics and a 1.9 from audience. On IMDb, the movie has a score of 4.9 out of 10 with 2.5k ratings.
Despite the critics, the film would have made a good start in French cinemas.
Netflix acquired the rights in April 2021 and plans to release the film later. The United States and the United Kingdom are among the territories where the film will be released.
The film will be available in the original French version and in a dubbed version in English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Several translation options will also be available, including English. The film is rated #12 in the UK and TV-PG in the US.
The film is unlikely to be distributed in the following countries: France, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Greece and the Baltic states: France, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Greece and the Baltic states, as other distributors have rights there.
Of course, Netflix is invested in the intellectual property of Asterix (or the universe, if you like it), since the stream is still out for the new animated series that should arrive sometime in 2024.
