Last weekend was a tumultuous one for Palmeiras technician Abel Ferrera. During the draw with Atlético Mineiro (1-1), the 44-year-old coach was involved in an altercation with the producer of TV Globo, a major Brazilian TV channel.
Upset by the referee’s controversial decision not to allow his team a goal late in the game, Ferreira broke into the media pro’s phone. Following the incident, the Portuguese called on the producer in question to apologize, citing the oppression he was subjected to in the face of the attack of cameras and mobile phones. However, this is unlikely to diminish the potential repercussions of his act.
The Brazilian sports judge, the STJD, has already taken over the case and is considering imposing a one- to six-match suspension on Ferreira. The former Braga boss, still looking defensive, came out early in the post-match press conference when asked to address rumors about possible talks with the Paris Saint-Germain bosses.
