First joint initial training for French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese NCOs

The first Joint Initial Training for Non-Commissioned Officers (G4) opened July 10, 2023, at the Scuola Marescialli Carabinieri in Florence, Italy.

G4 is a joint initiative of the Italian Gendarmerie and Carabinieri, the Spanish Civil Guard and the Portuguese National Republican Guard, which leads to the organization of training courses every year, in each country, bringing together 40 non-commissioned officer cadets (ie 10 for each country). Students are accompanied by their principals and are integrated into a mixed platoon to promote cohesion.

Three weeks of training

The training is offered for three weeks in Italian. It combines the “fundamentals” of the profession (eg professional intervention), Italian “characteristics” (eg fast driving on the track) and “European unity” on key security issues (police cooperation, environment, cybercrime, etc.).

The French contingent consists of ten gendarme cadets from the Montluçon school, supervised by Lieutenants Nathalie M. and Philippe S., and accompanied by Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Jerome L., coordinator of ERASMUS and designer of the “cybercrime” unit.
