Game news In 2023, Steam exceeds the number of video games released on the platform: it gets worse, 80 games have already been released in four days
Steam had another record year in 2023. And year after year, the favorite platform for PC gamers welcomes more and more games. Steam's catalog growth may end up exploding.
Massive arrival of games on Steam in 2023
Steam is undoubtedly the preferred platform for PC gamers. In service since 2003, Valve's platform has revolutionized the digital commerce of video games and continues to welcome a large number of players and games, year after year. But the year 2023 was special for Steam, which witnessed record numbers. Last year, 14,535 titles were published in the Steam catalog according to SteamDB. Numbers that break the platform's record set in 2022 with 12,559 games published this year. It's absolutely huge: by comparison, the second console that hosted the most games last year, the Switch, would have hosted “only” 2,360 (numbers for US territories).
Even crazier numbers for 2024?
It doesn't look like Steam's catalog growth will slow down anytime soon, quite the opposite. In 2024, the platform already hosted 18 games, again according to SteamDB. At this rate, Steam could accommodate nearly 30,000 games this year. The resurgence of software which can be explained by the democratization of development tools, but also by the flexible policy that Valve follows with its platform. We know that Steam hosts many programs of any kind and rarely censors content. A problem for some developers who see their titles disappearing among the many annual publications. However, Steam also gives you access to countless programs, as long as you can hear it.
