methodology :
In the spring of 2021, YouGov collected spontaneous nominations from panelists from 38 countries and regions: “Which living personalities (men or women) do you most admire?”
These nominations were then compiled to produce a list of the 20 men and 20 women who received the highest number of automatic votes, and who were nominated in at least 4 different countries. Between 5 and 10 local figures who received the largest number of votes for each country were also retained.
Between August and November, we re-surveyed panelists in each of the 38 countries and territories and asked two questions: “Which of the following people do you like?”, a question for which respondents could choose several personalities, and then “Among the personalities you like, who do you like?” more?” » with only one possible answer. These two percentages were combined to obtain an overall liking percentage. This percentage is shown to the right of each name in the graph above.
By asking these two questions, we can distinguish between the overall extent of support for a character and its intensity.
Overall, we surveyed countries representing more than two-thirds of the world's population. However, some parts of the world were better represented than others, so we evaluated the influence of some countries on the overall score, and reduced the influence of others so that the overall scores accurately reflected the world's levels of liking.
All terrain was implemented online. In many countries, Internet penetration is relatively low, meaning that the sample is only representative of the population with Internet access in those countries. The following is the list of countries concerned: Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa.
