You're using the wrong version of Discord

On PC, Discord makes the strange choice of pushing the installation of the 32-bit version of the app. The 64-bit version, which is more suitable for modern computers, increases the stability of the application.

Discord is particularly popular thanks to the excellent app offered for free on all platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, iOS). However, Internet users noticed that the service does not offer the correct version of the application by default, on Windows.

More specifically, Discord offers the 32-bit version of its app by default. Fortunately, it is possible to quickly upgrade to the 64-bit version.

Why change the version?

The x64 architecture has been the standard for many years now on computers, especially video game PCs. Therefore applications blocked in the 32-bit version are becoming increasingly rare. As such, Microsoft no longer even offers a 32-bit version of the latest version of its system, Windows 11.

Moving to 64-bit allows applications to access more RAM. Many internet users have noticed an improvement in Discord's stability and performance by moving to the 64-bit version.

To see if you are using the 32 or 64-bit version. Simply go to the Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC), in the Processes section, and see if the Discord process specifies “32-bit” or not. If it doesn't specify anything, it's the 64-bit version.

How to upgrade to 64 bit

The change is very simple as you just need to download and install the 64-bit version of the software. The application configuration as well as the account connection will be preserved when switching from one version to another.

Discord has not explained the reasons why the service continues to offer the 32-bit version by default. This may be a slight oversight, as the 64-bit version of the application is still relatively recent in the stable release.
