Journalists Jean-Hugo Savard and Claudia Fortier from Courier Frontenac were honored during the 75th edition of the Grands Prix des Hebdos held on Tuesday (April 30) in Trois-Rivières.
Jean-Hugo Savard first won first prize in the “Economics” category for his article “Property developers feel held hostage.” In this text, David Vincent and Jessica Vincent of DJV Immobilier as well as Raphael Gagné of Property Peak Performance urge the Quebec government to act and provide them with the tools to build 48 affordable housing units behind the St-Hubert restaurant in Thetford Mines. .
Mr Savard then won third place in the 'Sports and Entertainment' category for his article 'The New International Football League at Thetford Mines'. This organization includes several teams based in Thetford Mines, Placesville, St. George's, St. Mary's and St. Anselme. Players from several countries gather every weekend in Notre Dame Park to practice their favorite sport.
The journalist was recently rewarded in the “Photography” category by winning second place for the photo of singer Guillén Tanguay, which he took at the 2023 edition of the Promotuel de la Relief de Thetford festival.
For her part, Claudia Fortier won second place in the “Health and Well-Being” category for her article “The Hospitality Family: Making a Difference in the Lives of Young People.” It was about Rachel Lajeunesse and Serge Tétreau from Saint Praxeed who have been able to change the fate of many children and teenagers as a foster family over the past 14 years.
The Grand Prix des Hebdos competition, established in 1949, aims to highlight the excellence of the work of journalists and craftsmen in local and regional journalism. In 2024, 81 out of 441 works submitted by 52 media outlets won the award.
