The Ascension Weekend is an important moment for the Portuguese community in the area. The Portuguese Association of Colmar will meet its compatriots and sympathizers at its headquarters on the Neuve-Brisach road in Colmar for four colorful festive days.
Amicale will be open Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be grills all day, but you'll have to wait until 5pm to get the sardines. The afternoon will be hosted by the popular group O Coraçao do Minho (Heart of Minho, Northern Portugal region). Singer Lagenia, based in Switzerland, will perform a very danceable piece on the accordion.
Salty, suica and pesca
On Friday, May 10, the site will be open from 10am. There will be barbecues throughout the day and it will be possible to learn to play Portuguese card games such as malha, sueca or bisca. For those who missed the exhibition of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution 15 days ago in Cuevos, it will be possible to discover it on Friday and Saturday. In the evening, upon reservation, you can taste “porco de Alentajana” pork with oysters. Concert at 9pm with Os Amigos do Fado and Les Amis du Fado.
On Saturday, Portuguese tapas will be served at 11 a.m. (cold cuts, cheeses and fried foods). On the lunch menu: roast pig. At 3 p.m., the Colmar Association will present Impulsion équestre Iberian horses. “We will have six or seven riders,” explains José Carvalho, who offers the activities and dressage courses. “They will ride purebred Spanish and Lusitano horses. They will present the characteristics of these horses and give dressage demonstrations. We will work in a limited space, but as we say: the Lusitano can do the spins on the olive!”
Pot-au-feu and football on Sunday
On Saturday evening, Cedrico Martins will host the ball with a serving of green cabbage soup “caldo verde.” Sunday, Portuguese hors d'oeuvres return at 11 a.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by Raizes Lusitanas. At midday, you can have soup (cosido) upon reservation. At four in the afternoon, head to the L'Orangerie Stadium to support the Portuguese player coming from Colmar. “After two years of hiatus, we have reformed the youth team this season,” says Antonio de Souza, president of the association. They will face Team Riquier. Whether they win or not, they will celebrate the end of these intense four days with a drink at Amicale at 7pm.
