Scarlett Johansson is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today, but there was a time when she wasn't at all happy with the way her career was going.
In fact, she herself admitted to Variety that she felt lost and that at one point she was on the verge of giving up. This was mainly because of an excellent sci-fi movie she wasn't involved in.

“I wanted this role so much“
The actress recalls that the lowest point in her career coincided with two films because of which she was rejected. Destiny wanted the story to end well in the case of Iron Man 2, but she wasn't so lucky with Gravity, as she herself recalls:
“I wanted this role so much. I've hit rock bottom. I felt very frustrated and hopeless. The job I was offered seemed very unsatisfactory. I think I've been shown every Marilyn Monroe script ever. So I thought to myself: Is this the end of the creative path?“.

Alfonso Cuarón's film was eventually produced with Sandra Bullock, but Iron Man 2 benefited from Emily Blunt having to pull out of the project at the last minute due to a prior contractual obligation, forcing her to take part in Gulliver's Travels instead.
“It reignited my passion for comedy“
Scarlett Johansson herself recalls that the Marvel movie “It wouldn't change anything given the way my character was written, but there was potential for what it could be: potential for growth in later films.This is what happened, as she herself pointed out at the time, with the gradual abandonment of the hypersexuality to which Black Widow was subject at the time, which even led to her own film (not without controversy).
