Nicolette. At the beginning of 2024, the city of Nicolet announced that it would embark on a pilot project to lend “smart” equipment launched by the network of regional leisure units, in cooperation with the Center du Loisir Sports du Québec.
The formula consists of providing citizens with sports and entertainment equipment in lockers that can be opened for free using an application and a Bluetooth system. At Nicolet, two six-storey lockers will be installed. Delivery of these boxes is imminent, said Sebastian Turgeon, director of communications for the city of Nicolet.
If all goes as planned, installation should be completed by the end of June. One of the two boxes will be installed near Pierre Provencher Square. The other could lead to the Précieux-Sang Park, which is being developed in full swing.
This is a European solar technology. The tanks will be accessible all year round and their contents will obviously be adapted to the current season.
To find out what is available in the box, the user will only have to connect to the platform (Box Up), which will be pre-downloaded to his smartphone or tablet.
“The interesting thing about this principle is that there is a map of Quebec indicating where all the connected lockers are located, and what they contain. Therefore, a person planning to visit Nicolet will be able to choose to borrow the equipment available in our lockers during their stay instead of bringing their own,” Mr. Turgeon points out.
The process is simple. The user registers in the Box Up application (available on the App Store and Google Play), selects the locker of his choice from the station located near him, enjoys its content while adhering to the general terms of use, and then returns the equipment to its place when finished using it.
