“In general, there is no difference for us,” Vladimir Putin said in an interview with foreign news agencies, including Agence France-Presse, on the sidelines of the Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.

The Russian president continued: “We do not believe that after the elections, anything will change regarding Russia and American policy.”

He considered it “ridiculous” to consider Donald Trump a candidate more benevolent toward Moscow.

Putin also considered that the legal problems faced by Trump, who has been convicted of criminal charges, were the result of “internal political conflict” between Democrats and Republicans ahead of the US presidential elections in November.

He added: “It is clear around the world that trying Trump, especially in court on charges that developed based on events that occurred years ago, without direct evidence, is merely using the judicial system as part of an internal political struggle.” He said.

Finally, he estimated that the Joe Biden administration is “committing one mistake after another” in international and domestic politics.

“With what is happening (in the United States) in the context of the internal political conflict, they are burning themselves from within, their state, their political system (…) They are burning at the roots of their supposed leadership in the field,” Mr. Putin further stressed.
