With the aim of completing its annual vaccination plan, the Ministry of Health, through the Expanded Vaccination Programme, launched a large-scale vaccination operation across the entire national territory from June 14 to 18, 2024.
Indeed, these activities aimed to keep up with the vaccination schedule for unvaccinated children aged 0 to 5 years throughout 2023 and in the first quarter of 2024. During this period, pregnant women were vaccinated against tetanus.
During this vaccination campaign, teams from the Ministry of Health, with technical and financial support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization, were also deployed at fixed locations of health facilities and throughout major cities in the country with the aim of mobilizing local communities and raising awareness of the risks associated with non-vaccination. And vaccinate the various goals specified in its action plan.
It should be noted that this large-scale measure comes at a time when vaccination coverage in the country is declining, exposing Gabon to many epidemics.
