Whooping cough is a disease of the lungs and throat that spreads easily from person to person, primarily through droplets released from the nose, mouth and throat of an infected person.

Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself.

Infection usually first appears with the following symptoms:

• Mild fever;
• Runny nose;
• Eye redness, accompanied by tears.
• cough.

This cough becomes stronger and more frequent after 7 to 14 days.

After a coughing fit, the affected person may, when inhaling, make a sound reminiscent of a rooster crowing. The person may then vomit or stop breathing for a few moments.
