Two dengue outbreaks detected in Pirai: Insecticide treatments scheduled for next week

The country has been on alert for dengue since November 2023, but recently two active outbreaks have been detected in the town of Pirae near the hospital. To prevent the spread of the disease, the Ministry of Health's Environmental Health Centre will carry out insecticide treatments in the area from Avenue Laurent-le-Bihan to Avenue du Tauny on July 22 and 26 at dawn.

French Polynesia has been on alert for dengue since November 2023, with several cases detected mainly on the islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, Fakarava and Nuku Hiva. However, two active outbreaks have recently been detected in Pirae, near the hospital. To try to slow the spread of the disease, the Department of Health’s Environmental Health Centre will carry out insecticide treatments. They will be carried out in the area from Laurent Le Bihan Street to du Taaone Street on Monday, July 22 and Friday, July 26, at dawn, between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The CSE’s technical teams will also search for and eliminate larval breeding sites (i.e. stagnant water) in this area on Wednesday, July 24.

The Presidency reminds that dengue symptoms appear 3 to 14 days after the infectious bite. If you experience fever, headache, body aches, nausea and/or rash, it is advisable to consult a doctor quickly to get checked. You should also eliminate mosquito breeding places around your home and at work and finally protect yourself from mosquito bites, especially by using skin repellants, insecticides, diffusers, etc.
