Floods: What do project offices do? – VAT Gatineau

Philippe Bisset | August 15, 2024

In 2020, Quebec announced the creation of project offices in 10 regions, including the Outaouais, to ensure that new construction does not increase the risk of flooding in the province. Four years later, what has changed on the ground?

TVA Gatineau-Ottawa has learned that there are about twenty projects currently under evaluation. The project offices aim to address the flooding issue in every region of Quebec.

Their goal was to evaluate specific projects and make changes if they increased the risks of existing sectors. On the other hand, for four years, no major announcements have been made. There is still just over $300 million left of Quebec's initial $400 million budget, as project offices focus on updating flood zone maps.
