Sporting Braga, the training club that challenges the best teams in Portugal

The winner of the European matches will be guaranteed a place in the winter break. The loser will face English side Chelsea for a place in the Conference League and could see their international careers end at the start of the new season. After a good goalless draw in Portugal a week ago, and even facing their rivals at the start of the match, Servette face Sporting Braga on Thursday at 8.30pm in Geneva. It promises to be a tense encounter.

Sporting Braga finished fourth in La Liga last season. Today, that is their natural ranking. The club from northern Portugal does not have the financial muscle of Porto and Lisbon's Benfica and Sporting. But for twenty years, they have been used to being mistreated by them, to compete regularly in European competitions. Last year, the Portuguese faced Union Berlin, Napoli and Real Madrid in the Champions League. In 2016, they knocked Sion out of the Europa League by a few centimetres, with a shot on the crossbar from Vincent Rufli in the last minutes.
