The sky over the Pink Granite Coast presented a magical scene on the night of Monday, August 12.

Anne-Laure Klein and her family, from Luanic, were in the front row watching the rain. shooting starsaccompanied by Northern Lights.

She is watching the sky.

La Loanquin is passionate about astronomy, and is particularly fascinated by the Northern Lights.

“Not a night goes by that I don't say hello to the stars or the sky before going to bed.”

Seeing one with one's own eyes had always been one of his dreams.

This was done this summer thanks to close monitoring using mobile apps, websites and Facebook groups:

I have been reading a lot of documentation for a long time trying to understand this phenomenon. I also consult many sites that measure solar activity. Although I read in May about the possibility of catching the aurora and received some notices and high KP measurements, I missed the date because I was not there in time.

There is no doubt that she lost this for the second time. Since then, she has been more alert to discover new phenomena.

That was the case. In JulyWhile solar flares continued.

yet, The weather conditions were not favorable. The impacts occurred during the day or we were at very low latitudes.

But this Monday, all conditions were met:

I felt like it could do it, so I followed the measurements on an app and believed it. I regularly left the house to visit with my 12-year-old daughter and my husband. There were a lot of meteors, and the first quarter moon was already setting. It was 11:49 p.m. on my street. Then we headed back to my land, heading northeast. Meteors, pink, purple, red. Then it all came together.

This is when Anne-Laure and her family chose to go to Linz to fully enjoy the show.

My husband, an avid photographer, sat next to us and my daughter and I had a blast. She took pictures with me and we played together. Then she gathered blankets with our son and our dog who came to join us. While we were taking pictures, the kids were amazed at the number of shooting stars! We got home around 2am and I was so happy to be able to experience this first time with my family.

Moreover, the opportunity may arise again in a short time: “I continue to monitor because The sun is very active. On Wednesday or Thursday, a powerful solar flare, M5.32, occurred, and a coronal mass ejection (CME) is heading towards Earth with the potential to reach Between 18 and 19 Augustif nothing is added in the meantime. The effect must be at night and the sky must be clear..But anything is possible.

Appointments are made to take the best photos or simply enjoy the show.

KB, SM, M5.32: What does that mean?

Kp: This is the “Global Geomagnetic Index”. The measurement of geomagnetic activity, corresponding to changes associated with solar activity, is made over a three-hour period of activity at several locations using a magnetometer. The index ranges from 0 to 9, from the lowest activity to the highest activity.
CME: Coronal Mass Ejection. This occurs during a solar flare. It is a cloud of plasma ejected from the crown of a star.
Solar Flare Classes: Solar flares can be more or less powerful. They are classified as A, B, C, M, or X. Class A and B are the least common and most powerful, but the least impressive. Class C is next, which is also not very important, then Class M, which is classified as “fairly large eruptions.” Coronal mass ejections are most common at this level. Finally, Class X is the largest. (Space Weather Live)
