Distributor Inapa is in turmoil

With its presence in graphic papers, office automation, packaging and logistics, a big name in the distribution space is going through a very critical period. Due to cash flow difficulties faced by Inapa Deutschland's subsidiary in Germany, Portuguese company Inapa Investimentis, Participacoes e Gestao (Inapa IPG) has initiated insolvency proceedings during the summer of 2024. The distributor was founded in 1965 and is 45% owned by Participacoes Publicas (Parpublica). . ), employs 1,500 people in ten countries including France.

The group's losses amounted to 8 million euros in 2023. To reassure its customers, the company indicates that it is continuing its activity. There are five takeover offers “per apartment” in progress. Unsurprisingly, due to the structural deterioration of other markets, packaging activities have come under particular scrutiny. Through Inapa Packaging, the Portuguese company has two specialists in France: Société d'Empackage et de Manutention d'Aquitaine (Semaq), based in Beaugard (Gironde), and Embaltec, based in Nieps (North). French Next Pack is headquartered in Sornières (Loire-Atlantique), i.e. distributor Fidel Fillaud, and has positioned itself in this entity owned by Europackaging Investimentos, Participações e Gestão, a subsidiary of Inapa IPG. The value of the deal is 20 million euros. The deadline is expected to be September 27.

Inapa France is based in Villaby (Essonne), and also has an entity called Inapa Premium Packaging that focuses on luxury. Japan Pulp and Paper (JPP) has a presence in France, particularly through European Fiber Products (EFP-Chavassieu), and is vying to take over the business. The offer value is 25 million euros. In Europe, JPP operates through Gould Paper and Ovol Holdings France. Germany, Spain, Belgium and Turkey are not the subject of the proposals.
