The house stretches under a barrage of insults: Harris and Trump battle it out in key states

On Wednesday, Kamala Harris increased the number of kilometers and meetings in the “swing states,” those crucial states in the US presidential elections, the day after her giant meeting in Washington, which served as a “final indictment” against Donald Trump.

The former Republican president is a man “unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed by resentment and in search of limitless power,” the former vice president and attorney general accused him in a very solemn speech delivered on the square in front of the White House.

In front of an audience of more than 75,000 people, according to her campaign team, the Democratic candidate said that it was time to turn the page on Trump for the United States.

On Wednesday, Kamala Harris will travel first to Raleigh, North Carolina, a state that has not voted for the Democratic Party since Barack Obama in 2008, but for which the Vice President has high hopes.

In a sign of the contested nature of this southeastern state, Donald Trump will be there on the same day, holding a meeting less than 100 kilometers away from his rival.

On the trail

Six days before the election, the Democrat and Republican appear to be keeping tabs on each other in the seven “swing states”: Both are also headed to Wisconsin on Wednesday, a state in the Great Lakes region more than 750 miles from North Carolina.

At his rally in Green Bay, Donald Trump will be joined on stage by Brett Favre, the former star of the local professional American football team.

The former Packers quarterback is not without controversy, as he was most notably accused of embezzling public funds in his native Mississippi.

Kamala Harris will be in the large university city of Madison, before flying back to Pennsylvania, which is considered the jackpot for the major states.

Across the country, especially pivotal states, Donald Trump, like Kamala Harris, is sparing no effort to convince the few undecided voters in this election, which promises to be one of the closest in American history.

According to polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight, the two candidates are closely matched.

More than 50 million people have voted early or by mail. As of 2020, a total of about 160 million Americans have voted.

Puerto Rico fallout

The Republican campaign team was still trying to limit the damage after a Sunday meeting at Madison Square Garden in New York during which a comedian described Puerto Rico, a US territory in the Caribbean Sea, as a “floating island of garbage.”

The Puerto Rican diaspora is particularly present in New York and Florida, but could be particularly important in Pennsylvania, where Donald Trump's rally saw two Puerto Rican speakers take to the stage on Tuesday night.

If Donald Trump distances himself from Tony Hinchcliffe's comments, declaring in a Fox News interview that the comedian should not have been on stage, the repercussions remain undetermined.

“I was going to vote Republican, and this made me take a closer look at Harris' plan,” Javier Torres Martinez, a 45-year-old Puerto Rican who lives near Miami, Florida, told AFP. She added: “Previously, I was 100% convinced to vote for Trump, and now I am 100% motivated to vote for Kamala Harris.”

But Joe Biden complicated the situation on Tuesday evening. In question? A dig has been launched in response to Tony Hinchcliffe's insult supposedly attacking Donald Trump's followers.

The Democratic president declared that “the only trash I see floating around here is his supporters,” sparking criticism from the Republican camp.

Donald Trump's campaign team immediately called on Kamala Harris to “repudiate the heinous insult” launched by Joe Biden.
