Since the launch of Samsung’s first Galaxy Fold, smartphone makers have all been wondering if they should follow the Korean lead. Apple is no exception to this rule. Although no official communication has been made about it, the Apple brand is developing some prototypes internally.
Keen to see what a foldable iPhone might look like, a young Chinese YouTuber decided to build the phone himself. He salvaged parts from the Galaxy Flip and Motorola Razr to create the “iPhone V,” a foldable phone.
The world’s first foldable iPhone
Starting with the classic iPhone X, the videographer, better known by the pseudonym KJMX, presented his work on November 8 in a video (below). He explains that he kept all of the iPhone components, but put them back in this new chassis.
Some parts are missing, made by himself using a 3D printer. This prototype is not official and only allows preview of the foldable iPhone. A tedious design task that took several months and dozens of different parts.
He states in his video that the device is fully functional. It still uses iOS to power the phone, allowing you to get the first view of a product under that operating system with a folded screen. For reasons of optimization, he preferred to use the Flip format instead of the Samsung Fold.
Apple wants to make its own ‘iPhone Fold’
For its part, Apple is also working on a foldable iPhone design, but the Apple brand can take the opposite option, thus offering a product halfway between the iPhone and the iPad. Too small to be a tablet, and too big to be a phone, this product is developed with the utmost secrecy on the part of Cupertino.
In his latest report on the subject, famous analyst Ming Chi Kuo referred to the 9-inch screen when opened. To give you an idea, the latest generation iPad Mini has an 8.3 inch screen.
