A man was arrested after he pushed a woman in front of a moving subway train

A suspect wanted after being accused of pushing a woman off a New York City subway platform was arrested Thursday in New Jersey, authorities said.

The suspect was identified as Saber Jones. After escaping from the authorities, he was placed under arrest on Thursday.

“He was arrested by Newark Police” in New Jersey, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Farage said in a press release.

On Wednesday, a 30-year-old woman was pushed in front of a moving subway train.

The unidentified woman was in critical condition at Cornell Medical Center, NYPD Chief of Transportation Michael Kemper said at a news conference on Wednesday.

“As the train was leaving the station, she was pushed and her head hit the moving train. The train left the station and she fell onto the platform. Fortunately, eyewitnesses and good Samaritans who were on the platform helped her get off the platform and back onto the platform.”

Mr. Jones fled the scene on foot after the incident, authorities said.

At Wednesday’s news conference, Mr. Kemper did not provide information about Mr. Jones’ “background,” but said he was “known to us in the metro.”
