A Florida police officer who allegedly took the decedent’s credit card to purchase eyelash extensions and fast food was arrested Tuesday for theft.
“She was a police officer, but she doesn’t deserve that title now,” St. Cloud Police Chief Doug Gurk said Wednesday, according to Legal & Crime Media. The badge she was wearing was tarnished and would never be worn again; In fact, it will be destroyed.”
Diane Ferreira, 25, has been accused of stealing the credit card details of a man who was called in early April and was having trouble breathing.
When emergency services arrived at the site, the man was already dead, according to what the English-language media continued.
Except that in the following weeks, his widow noticed suspicious purchases, including gasoline, and an order of fast food from the Wendy’s restaurant chain as well as a one-night stay at the hotel, made after her husband’s death.
Two more attempts at eyelash extension and petrol were recorded on the ticket after the latter was cancelled. By tracing the suspicious vehicle, the police would have traced back to Diane Ferreira, according to law and crime.
The police officer would, in particular, admit during interrogation that he took a picture of the card in order to make a series of online purchases, totaling $450. She was formally charged with credit card theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, and use of a deceased person’s identity.
“As a law enforcement officer, I get sick and nauseous every time we have to do something like this,” Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez said at the news conference. Everyone takes responsibility for their actions. […] Taking advantage of a person in their time of need is completely wrong.”
