Is Quebec subject to US Supreme Court decisions?
To hear some for a few days, one might suppose.
They pretend to believe that reversing Roe v. Wade will have an effect on our side of the border and that the right to abortion will be weakened here as well.
A quick reminder: Quebec is not an American country.

Where does this conviction that many share come from? On a serious problem: I’m talking about our mental Americanization.
In recent years, for various reasons, we have become accustomed to projecting ourselves into the social and political categories that make up American life, as if we were living our national life by proxy.
We are more passionate about American politics than Quebec politics. We drop ourselves into their societal discussions while often abandoning our own.
As a result, we often confuse American society with our own.
We saw this especially in 2020 at the time of the George Floyd case, when some were convinced that the issue of racism in the United States arose in the same way in Quebec, and that it was necessary to accommodate the conditions of societies. From immigration here to immigration of black Americans.
It was a major delirium, but this media delirium distorts our perception of ourselves. All of this has led us to debate the foolish theory of systemic racism.
This is exactly what is happening today with the issue of the right to abortion.
In Texas, it has been hacked, in Missouri as well. And in many other countries.
But there’s no point in pretending it’s in Quebec! We have enough problems without feeling the need to artificially add a problem to ourselves.
Accuracy: We’re not the only ones who act like we’re Americans.
In France, where the right to abortion is recognized, and where no political party disputes it, the presidential party, after the decision of the US Supreme Court, pledged to enshrine it in the Constitution.
In other words, France is considering amending its Basic Law in response to a decision regarding US domestic policy.
It would be good if we could stop being in the wrong country and reconnect with our reality.
However, we can glean a general reflection of what is happening in the United States.
Obviously, today, judges and courts – and even more so the Supreme Court – are revered.
Courts
Finally, we note that the courts are political actors. Their decisions are ideologically oriented. They are no more impartial than elected councils.
One last thing: The only reason Kickers hear about abortion politically from time to time comes from their participation in the Canadian Federation, forcing them to submit to the debates that move Western Canada as if they were their own.
If they never want to hear it again, they know what to do.
