Forty countries, including the United States, members of the European Union, the United Kingdom or Asian countries, on Wednesday called on Russia in a joint statement to “immediately cease its military operations in Ukraine,” and endorsed Kyiv’s approach before the International Court of Justice.

In this declaration published in New York, these countries give their “support” to Ukraine’s action “against Russia before the International Court of Justice, on the basis of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, for the purpose of establishing that Russian military intervention has no legal basis It is based on unfounded allegations of genocide.”
The text states that the court demanded that Moscow end the war on March 16, 2022.
Russia must be held accountable for its actions. In this regard, we consider that violations of international law committed by Russia involve its international responsibility.” The text adds: “Losses and damages caused to Ukraine (…) require full and urgent compensation from Russia.”
According to Ukraine, it will take at least $750 billion to save the country from the rubble caused by the conflict.
The International Court of Justice, the highest court of the United Nations, sitting in The Hague, issues rulings that are binding and non-appealable. It bases its conclusions mainly on treaties and agreements, but has no means of implementing its decisions.
