Sixty-three Portuguese Scouts from Pombal, aged between 7 and 48, camped in Biscarrosse from Saturday 2 August to Thursday 8 August at the invitation of Bernard Ferreira, Honorary President of the Biscarrosse-Pombal Twinning Committee. The young Lusitanians, members of the “Capo Nacional de Escortas”, led by their leader Vitor Mota, camped near the Tresco stadium where they were able to take advantage of the sanitary facilities available to them. While in the area, they visited Bordeaux and were invited to their city by the Bégles Football Club. They also discovered Arcachon, the Dune du Pilat, the Biscarrosse beach and, of course, had a pleasant time at the Museum of Traditions and the Latécoeur Hydration Museum. The presence of such a contingent of Scouts in uniform did not go unnoticed in the peripheral city and, despite the language barrier, they had no difficulty integrating into the local community and places of life, because wherever they travel, Scouts and Scouts from all countries must adapt.
Twin Cities
The motto of the Pombal Scouts, embossed on a patch sewn on their shirts, is “I am who you want”. It illustrates the spirit of friendship, commitment, solidarity and fraternity that characterizes international scouting movements. This formula can also be applied to the philosophy of the Biscarros-Pombal twinning because its cross-border relations are based unconditionally on exchange, sharing and cooperation between the two cities. Before leaving the next day for the Portuguese community, the Scouts attended a prayer in honor of Our Lady of Fatima, celebrated by Father Hyacintha Sano in the church of San Martin, in which Hélène Larize, Mayor of Biscarros, and her assistant for cultural affairs, Roselyne Aubert, participated. The elected officials and their hosts congratulated each other on the strength and intensity of the warm bonds created during these hours spent together, which will leave memories full of joy.
