The President of Angola, Joao Lourenço, has confirmed the alarming deterioration in the health of his predecessor, José Eduardo dos Santos, which was recently pointed out by the international press.
We can say that the situation is worrying. On Wednesday after a visit to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal, President Joao Lourenço said only medical teams would be able to provide more information.
On June 24, Portuguese public television and business daily Journal de Negosos revealed that the former Angolan leader had been taken to hospital in Barcelona, Spain, and in a “serious condition”.
Joao Lourenço confirmed this information and announced that he had ordered his foreign minister, Tite Antonio, to go to Barcelona “to monitor the situation closely”.
At the age of 79, José Eduardo dos Santos led Angola from 1979 to 2017, the country’s second president after independence. It is no secret that his fragile health is no secret, and rumors often circulate that his condition is getting worse. Last May, social networks even announced the death of the former president. His daughter, Isabel dos Santos, denied the false news on Twitter.
