The iPhone maker has built its own system for creating large language models — the AI-powered systems at the heart of new offerings like ChatGPT and Google’s Bard — according to people familiar with the effort. Using this rule, known as “Ajax”, Apple also created a chatbot (Chat bot) which some engineers call “Apple GPT”.
However, the Apple bot ran into security issues with its generative AI, which delayed its launch. However, it is now accessible to more Apple employees, with special permission to use.
Experts wanted
Currently, the bot is mainly used for prototyping products, summarizing texts, and answering questions based on its training data. Unlike its competitors, the robot does not have any additional features that set it apart from others.
To further its generative AI efforts, Apple is looking for talent through job postings, and is looking for experts with a good understanding of large language models and generative AI.
Protect private life
While other tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Meta have already introduced generative AI products to the public, Apple has remained relatively quiet in this area. However, the company intends to address potential privacy concerns related to AI as it moves forward. Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the integration of artificial intelligence into its products will be done in a thoughtful manner.
The strategy is still evolving
Although Apple has built AI features into its products and apps over the years, the company is now looking to meet consumer demand for generative AI tools that can help with tasks like writing articles and creating images.
Apple’s specific strategy for making its AI technology available to consumers is yet to be determined, but the company is said to be planning to make a major AI announcement in the near future.
