The former Portuguese footballer and former coach of Paris Saint-Germain died on Thursday, February 22, at the age of 78.
Former Portuguese football player and coach Artur Jorge has died, his family announced in a statement. The former coach of Paris Saint-Germain (1991-1994, 1998-1999), known for his career as an international striker in Portugal.
Aside from his career on the field, he also excelled as a coach. He won the Champion Clubs' Cup with FC Porto in 1987, and was then nicknamed “Rei Artur” (“King Arthur”). The beginning of his coaching career took him first to Racing Matra Racing (1987-1989), then to Paris Saint-Germain twice.
He also managed several national teams: Portugal, Cameroon and Switzerland. Retired since 2014, lives in Lisbon.
