At my home in Paris, science fiction is on the cultural aperitif menu

Energizing. Created in partnership with Saint-Dizier Media Library, the cultural appetizer takes place every first Thursday of every month at Petit Paris. These sessions are an opportunity for culture lovers to meet and have a drink to discuss their favorite cinematic and literary films of the moment. On Thursday 1 February, Amelie Thomasin, Director of the Saint-Dizier Media Library, hosted this meeting in the presence of Sophie, Céline, Ludovic and Maryse.

This time, the participants discussed the topic of science fiction and suspense novels that deal with environmental degradation, the emergence of diseases and epidemics, and questions about the development of the world. “Suspense is a literary and cinematic genre consisting of works set in the near or distant future,” explained Amelie Thomasin.

Sophie, Céline, Ludovic, Maris and Amelie discussed in particular “1984”, a novel by George Orwell, “Fahrenheit 1451” by Ray Bradbury, as well as the film “Future Crimes” by director David Cronenberg.

Two other films like “War of the Worlds” where humanity faces hostile extraterrestrial beings, and “Labyrinth”, which traces a post-climate-change apocalypse on Earth, have captivated the evening sci-fi fans. The next Petit Paris cultural gala will take place on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m.
