In the middle of the triple jump at the European Athletics Championships in Munich (Germany), Swede Jesper Hellström imitated the “salmon” jump during his first attempt.
A new unusual picture at the European Athletics Championships. After Portugal’s Joao Vitor de Oliveira unexpectedly jumped across the finish line in the 110m hurdles qualifying, Jesper Hellström made an equally stunning jump in the triple jump competition. During his first attempt, the Swedish athlete seemed to lose his balance at the end of the race. Instead of stopping or attempting the more traditional jump, he threw himself with his head forward, simulating the famous “salmon” jump.

The jump has been taken into account
The leap, already made by tennis player Daniil Medvedev during his victory at the US Open last year, is a nod to the video game FIFA. Obviously, he did not fail to make the spectators in the stands of the Munich (Germany) stadium smile, as well as the athlete’s coach. And although it is original, it was taken into account and measured at a height of 14 meters.
Jesper Hellstrom managed to catch up with the jump to 16.23 meters to finally take the tenth place in the competition won by the Portuguese Olympian and world champion Pedro Picciardo (17.50 meters) ahead of Italian Andrea Dallavalli (17, 04 m). Frenchman Jean-Marc Pontvienne, who finished eighth at the world championships last month in Eugene (US), completed the podium (16.94 metres) to win his first international medal.
