Bavai Dengue Cluster, interventions planned for 3-8 October

Several cases of dengue fever were reported in Baofai during September. The Environmental Health Center of the Health Directorate will conduct treatments between the Gueho and Buillard easements in Paofai on October 3-8.

Dengue fever has been spreading since June 2023. Several municipalities in Moria, Varipeti, Papeete and Mahina have been affected. In February 2024, the disease reached the islands, where the first case was detected in Rangiroa and then other cases in Aa Huka. Health authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

On Wednesday, October 2, the Ministry of Health reported a cluster of infections in the capital city of Baofai. The interventions and “treatments” will be carried out by the Environmental Health Center of the Directorate of Health “between the Guihu Easement and the Boyar Easement in Baofai on Thursday, October 3 and Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 5:30 a.m.”

As a reminder, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, it is recommended that the entire population do the following:

  • Consult a doctor if dengue fever is suspected (severe fever, body aches).
  • To get rid of mosquito breeding places around your home and workplace.
  • Protect yourself from bites by using skin repellents, insecticides and diffusers.

Elsewhere in the world, dengue fever is deadly. In the American continent, for example, the number of cases reached record levels, causing the death of a thousand people. The disease tends to spread more easily because… The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has warned of rising temperatures and the El Niño climate phenomenon.
