The US President said during a joint press conference at the White House with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, that Iran “threatens to launch a major attack against Israel.”
He added: “As I told Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu, our commitment to Israel’s security, in the face of these threats from Iran and its allies, is unwavering.”
“I repeat: unwavering. We will do everything in our power to protect Israel’s security,” Joe Biden continued.
This comment comes at a time of intense tension between the US President and the Israeli Prime Minister, Joe Biden, who publicly ruled, for example, that Benjamin Netanyahu was making a “mistake” in Gaza.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei confirmed on Wednesday that Israel “will be punished” after the bloody attack attributed to it on April 1 in Syria.
The attack destroyed the Iranian consulate in Damascus and killed 16 people, including seven members of the Revolutionary Guards, the Islamic Republic's ideological army, according to the NGO.
Iran has already promised to respond to this strike, which exacerbated regional tensions against the backdrop of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Iranian-backed Palestinian Hamas movement.
The Americans, for their part, confirmed that they had “nothing to do” with this attack.
