'Biohazard': United Airlines flight diverted due to sick passenger

A United Airlines flight was forced to divert after a passenger became so ill that the crew deemed him a “biohazard.”

The New York Post reported that a flight to Boston from Houston had to land early in Washington, D.C., on Sunday because a sick passenger caused the crew to vomit and prompted passengers to demand masks.

The situation was so serious that crew members and others on board began to fall ill, prompting the pilots to request a diversion, according to radio communications shared on X.

Given the situation in the cabin, the captain contacted the control tower to shorten the flight, considering the remaining flight, which lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes, to be too long.

The flight was cut short and had to land at Washington Dulles International Airport for a “deep cleaning,” according to the airline.

None of the 155 passengers and six crew members were hospitalized upon their return to the ground, and United Airlines said it planned to fly them to their destination as soon as possible.

The exact nature of the “biological hazard” remains uncertain, according to US media.
