Brutal arrest in New York: Man stripped of his pants in public after hitting police officer

A video has been circulating on social media and US media since Friday, showing a man losing his pants and underwear as he is thrown to the ground and beaten by a police officer, after he attacked a police officer.

A repeat offender on probation violently attacked a young NYPD recruit, knocking her to the Bronx sidewalk, before other officers arrested him in a stunning and powerful arrest captured on video Thursday night.

Ernest Delma, 41, punched a police officer in the face when she tried to break up a fight between him and a group of young men on a street corner, authorities and police sources said, according to the New York Post.

The circulating video begins immediately after the initial attack, which was not filmed. We see one of the agents pinning Mr. Dalma to the ground and beating him. In the heat of the moment, the officer pulls the man’s pants and underwear to the ground, exposing him to bystanders who burst into laughter.

For her part, Mary Fay, a recruit who had been in service for less than eight months according to information from the New York Police Department, appeared off-balance and her nose was bleeding, as her colleagues and witnesses rushed to help her.

“I didn’t want to hit her,” Dilma said as she emerged from the police station hours after her arrest, her right eye swollen shut, the New York Post reported. “It was self-defense,” he said, trying to justify himself.

The police officer reportedly has a “long road to recovery” after being taken to hospital, according to local media.

“She expressed her deep gratitude for the support she received from her colleagues and the public,” Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association, told the New York Post.
