One year later, the Science Portal has already attracted 400,000 visitors
CERN's new structure designed by star architect Renzo Piano brought in nearly a third more visitors than expected.
The CERN Science Portal, which opened a year ago, has attracted nearly 400,000 visitors, according to The Messenger. The target set was 300,000 visitors for the first year, explains building manager Patrick Geraert. The number reached “far exceeds our estimates.”
He adds, “All these people come not only from France, Switzerland, or even Europe, but from 174 countries around the world.” On average, the site receives 1,000 visitors per day. “From time to time, we can reach peaks, and the most we have ever reached is 3,560 passes,” the director adds.
