Danilo Cavalcanti, 34, was last seen Monday evening, carrying a backpack and duffel bag, in CCTV footage of a botanical garden normally open to the public, but kept closed on Wednesday, in the small town of Kennett Square, west of Philadelphia. , Pennsylvania.

Due to safety concerns, two school districts in the area also decided to close their schools to students on Tuesday, a decision that was confirmed on Wednesday.

And Lieutenant Colonel George Bivins of the Pennsylvania State Police warned on Tuesday that “you are facing a person who is desperate and does not want to be arrested,” stressing that the “pressure” exerted on him “works.”

On Thursday, the man escaped from the Chester County Jail, in the same area, where he was imprisoned after he was sentenced to life in prison on August 22 for the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend in April 2021.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he escaped by climbing onto the roof of one of the institution’s buildings from an exercise yard, a method already used by another prisoner last May.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, which is urging residents to close their doors, monitor their vehicles and belongings, and remain vigilant, “hundreds of law enforcement officers are working around the clock with the aid of helicopters, drones and canine units to locate the ‘fugitive’.” and US Customs patrol units to reinforce the pursuit.
