BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice Premier Deng Xuexiang on Sunday called for strengthening the scientific spirit and gathering wisdom and strength to build China into a scientific and technological powerhouse.
Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks in Beijing during the main event of the 2024 China National Science and Technology Week and the Beijing Science and Technology Week. .
He stressed the need to firmly support scientists' patriotic, innovative, practical, dedicated, cooperative and educational spirit to create a social environment that respects science and calls for innovation.
At the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ding visited the offices where famous scientists Qian Xuesen and Guo Yonghuai worked, the exhibition hall dedicated to the scientific spirit and the laboratory where tests on the mechanical properties of materials are carried out.
Ding noted that the older generation of scholars achieved remarkable successes under very difficult circumstances, mainly due to their profound patriotism and commitment to serving the country.
Ding stressed that in order to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, more researchers must shoulder the task and responsibility of achieving self-reliance and a high level of strength in science and technology.
He added that youth are the future of innovation, and encouraged primary school students to continue their interest in exploration and realize their dreams through the wings of science and technology.
Li Shuli, a member of the Politburo and head of the Information Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, also attended the event.
