While rumors swirled on Sunday of a future US departure, the former Real Madrid player could remain in England. According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Bohle, wants to sign the 37-year-old Portuguese star.
Reunion with the Champions League?
Close to agent Jorge Mendes, Bohle had already shown interest this summer but his former coach Thomas Tuchel opposed it. Graham Potter, now on the bench, would agree to bring him on.
According to ESPN, the Mancunians would be willing to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave for free and from January, on contract until June 2023, in order to save up the last six months of his large salary.
The Portuguese was recently left out of Manchester United’s first team after returning to the dressing room before the end of the match against Tottenham last Wednesday.
If he joined Chelsea, Ronaldo would compete in the Champions League. The Blues are also close to qualifying for the knockout stages.
