Deceaseville High School participated in the Science Festival, a national event. Fermi, Aubin and Viviez schools were welcomed with CM1 and CM2, i.e. approximately 80 students were welcomed.
Schoolchildren visited La Découverte de Decazeville Secondary School and participated in four workshops: SVT (Earth and Life Sciences), Physics, Chemistry, Biopaleontology and Engineering Sciences. Biotechnology has aroused the interest of young school children.
Specifically, these are the applications of science and technology to living organisms, their components, products or models, with the aim of modifying materials, living or not, for the purposes of producing knowledge, goods or services. With as much enthusiasm as ever, the high school students in the Teaching of Biotechnology Discovery were very happy to present the “Dépol Decaz” project to the young visitors. An opportunity for everyone to raise awareness about air pollution problems and consider solutions to clean water and soil in vegetable gardens through small experiments carried out by the Maroon school children themselves.
Water cleaning
Water is decontaminated by filtering it through an activated carbon filter which has the ability to fix contaminants such as positively charged lead ions. Plants that excessively accumulate heavy metals could allow us to decontaminate the land in the most polluted areas in just a hundred years. Plants absorb water by absorbing pollutants and storing them in their leaves.
Plants do not work alone, but in cooperation with microorganisms that can be observed under a microscope.
The plants are cut and dried and can serve as a catalyst for chemical reactions to produce medicines (antivirals, antimalarials, cosmetic products). After the experiments, it's time for the young schoolchildren to take the quiz to win a spider plant to clean the air in the house. A great educational celebration…
