Democratic Republic of the Congo: PEPFAR reports decline in new HIV infections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The US President's Emergency Plan to Reduce AIDS (PEPFAR) announced on Monday, April 8, that there is an increasing number of new HIV infections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This came during her presentation to the press in Kinshasa of the results of the activities of American organizations and agencies that support the health sector and their effects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to PEPFAR's Medical Director, Dr. Olivier Kalombo, about two hundred thousand patients have lifelong access to antiretrovirals in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Dr. Kalombo also emphasizes that these major advances in the fight against HIV have been achieved thanks to the mobilization of a budget of one hundred billion dollars over 24 years of activities.

For the Director of the National Multisectoral AIDS Programme, Dr. Emi Mboyo, the American contribution to the health sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is beneficial, not only to the ministry but especially to the Congolese population.

Vaccine against monkeypox
