Some states with a British tradition like to give their elected representatives an honorable or very honorable title.
The United States should inaugurate a new tradition of calling its Republican elected officials “toxic or highly toxic.”
Because the circus in which Republicans in Congress are involved is harmful not only to American politics, but also to global politics.
After shouting from the rooftops that immigration is a serious problem in the United States, wouldn't these same Republicans refuse to vote for a law that would release tens of billions of dollars to reinforce the border with Mexico and place a weekly cap on immigrants? 5,000 refugees and then the borders are allowed to be closed. The bill includes several other very interesting measures for those who want to reduce illegal immigration.
Electoral miles
This is certainly not enough for Republicans, but it clearly represents an important step forward in their policies.
But no, the very toxic Donald Trump decided that these measures were not enough. He therefore ordered toxic Republican elected officials to vote against this bill, which was however the result of compromises between them and the Democrats.
This rejection of the bill will allow the very toxic Trump to continue building electoral mileage on the back of illegal immigration. But in the meantime, the immigration problem in the United States will continue to worsen, even though the new law could have solved part of it.
The bill also includes money to finance the war in Ukraine and aid to Israel. In fact, this bill was initially supposed to relate only to the war in Ukraine, but Republicans tied this aid to the new border law.
Unparalleled level of inconvenience
Ukraine is a global issue. Defeating Ukraine would signal to Russia, China, and other dictatorial regimes that many regions are now “open territory.”
The very toxic Trump has reached a level of global inconvenience here that is rarely reached.
The level of inconvenience was so high, even senior Japanese officials leaked to the media that they feared that if Trump was re-elected, the United States would oppose the rest of the G7.
As John Bolton, Trump's former security adviser, says, the latter understands nothing about international relations.
To make a quick profit, Trump is willing to sell out America's long-term interests.
We can argue for a long time about the reasons why some American voters follow Trump after all. One thing seems clearer: Trump is no less toxic than Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, or Kim Jong Un. Less deadly, no doubt, but just as bad for his country and the planet.
