The PS5 will receive a new beta system software update today. Sony details the new features and some of them are really welcome!
More accessibility
Sony continues to emphasize accessibility to keep up with the work Microsoft has done on the subject in recent years (such as the Access Controller). In this update, it is now possible to assign a second controller to an account to act as an assistant.
As with a driving school car that has two drive wheels, this feature allows another person to control the console at any time as an assistant. Two DualSenses work together as if they were one controller.
It is also possible to activate haptic feedback effects in the PS5 menus in addition to sound effects. Good news for visually impaired people.
Dolby Atmos everywhere
With the PS5, Sony wanted to make the most of audio with Tempest 3D technology. This technology is currently compatible with the brand’s own headphones, and can now be used with other devices connected via HDMI and compatible with Dolby Atmos. If you have a soundbar or home theater, you’ll be able to take advantage of spatial customization, including higher channels.
New for parties
The group interface improves here with the ability to invite the player to join a closed group without having to add them to the group or create a new group. Likewise, it is possible to invite a whole group and not just individuals.
Additionally, when you want to join a group where a player is sharing their screen, you will have a preview of the screen in question.
Social in the spotlight
In the tab ” friends “, you see directly those who are carrying out an activity that you can participate in, and in the game center, you will see the number of tournaments you participate in and your best rank.
Finally, it is possible to reply to received messages using emojis, as is now usually done in private messaging applications.
Quality of life improvements
In this update we find other new features designed to improve the experience within the PS5 interface. For example, we can cite the search function in your game library or the improvement of help cards in the game.
in the list ” Guide and advice “, you’ll also find helpful tips for getting the most out of your console, and in System Settings, you’ll find a new option to mute or adjust the volume of PS5 beeps. Practical for starting the game discreetly.
Larger SSD drives
Finally, the latest new products will please those who buy a lot of games digitally. PS5 M.2 SSDs can now have capacities of up to 8TB (compared to 4TB previously).
Be careful, the other parameters do not change, and remember to check everything before buying a new SSD.
It is still in beta
For now, these new features are reserved for beta testers. It will not be released until later in the year worldwide.
If you’re in a hurry, you can always sign up for the beta program at PlayStation website.
