Euro 2024: Group F classification and scenarios after Portugal’s victory over Türkiye

Portugal can look forward. After its victory over Turkey (3-0), today, Saturday, in the competitions of the second day of Euro 2024, the German national team and Spain joined the ranks of those qualifying for the round of 16 of the competition. In addition to this qualification, Cristiano Ronaldo and his team are guaranteed to finish top of their group. The team currently has six points before its final group match against Georgia on Wednesday.

Behind Portugal, everything remains open

The Turks, for their part, are in second place with three points, but everything may change in the event of a poor performance. As Vincenzo Montella's men challenge the Czech Republic on Wednesday, defeat would mean at least third place, as the Czechs, who would pick up four points, would move ahead of their rivals. Worse still, Turkey may finish last if its defeat is coupled with Georgia's victory over Portugal. In the event of a draw or victory, Türkiye will be guaranteed second place with four or six points.

The Czech Republic must beat Türkiye to qualify. Victory means at least third place with four points, or even second place if Georgia beats Portugal by a smaller margin. A draw would put the Czechs on two points, and that may be too short to hope to reach eighth place, depending on the performance of the other third-placed groups.

The same is true for Georgia, which, with one point, must strive to beat Portugal in order to qualify. Depending on the result of the Turks against the Czechs, the Georgians will finish second or third. In the event of a draw or defeat, the road ends there for Willy Sagnol's men.
