Europa League: Portuguese or Israelis face Servette

Servette take on Young Boys in the first official match of the Garnet 11 this season: a clash between the cup winners and the Swiss champions. Furthermore, UEFA and FC Lucerne strongly condemn the racist message sent to Derek Kutesa after the match between the two teams on the occasion of the resumption of play.

Servette got off to a good start in this tournament with a 2-1 win in Lucerne the previous Sunday. It is a sign that the change of coach – the second in a year – has happened naturally. To listen to Bojan Dimech, who was already assistant to Miho Kodro, Alain Geiger and René Weiler respectively before becoming assistant to Thomas Häberle, the transition is going off without a hitch.

So the Servettes start their season with an English week. Just three days after their win in central Switzerland, they host Young Boys on Wednesday evening (8:30 p.m.) in front of their home crowd.
Three games a week, is that ideal to get into the swing of things or more of a problem in terms of recovery?

This first home match for Servette was already a big shock. The match between the Swiss Cup winners and the current champions. It remains to be seen how much the “yellow and black” in the federal capital have changed compared to last season.

Racism: Zero Tolerance!

On the sidelines of the Lucerne-Servette match, a Geneva native was the victim of racism: Derek Kutesa. A FC Lucerne fan sent him a photo of a banana on social media with the message “Your favourite food, your favourite food” in French. All this, shortly after the match between the two teams. Both Lucerne and Servette strongly condemned the incident and both clubs reiterated their zero tolerance policy towards this type of behaviour. The federation said it supported its player while the Swissporarena indicated that it wanted to do everything in its power to identify him and suspend him from playing.
